I know, I've been terrible. THREE uploads this year and we're two weeks away from July? Ugh. UGH. Thankfully, a recent change has rekindled my love of making art. See, for the past three or so years I've been using a super old (like, 2008 old!), crappy desktop I got cheap off eBay with Photoshop CS5 pre-installed. Not only was it super slow but it was running the 32-bit version of Windows 7, and at the time I had bought it I didn't realize that meant it can only accept a maximum of 4GB RAM. It's been a terrible machine for making digital art, only able to just barely scrape by for me. It's not the only reason I've been in an artist rut this year, but it's definitely been a big contributor. If most of your art is done digitally and it's a pain in the ass to boot up your computer and you have to deal with things like brush lag, it tends to wear on you and take the fun out of making art.
But I finally bought a new desktop perfectly specc'd out for my needs, and now I'm on Photoshop CC 2017. Here's the difference between the old jalopy I was working on vs. the sleek new workhorse I have now:
Old Computer: Ancient Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM. Can only have one hard drive so I had to use an external drive as a scratch disk.
New Computer: 6th Gen Core i5 with 16GB RAM. Two SSD drives, so now I have a dedicated scratch disk installed in the computer.
The difference is night and day, and it's really made a difference. My workflow is as smooth as butter now, and due to a few other personal things I won't get into right now, I'm definitely BACK with with newfound motivation and passion! My goal is to have a new upload at least once a week from here on out. I already have THREE other works in progress (I don't know how to pluralize WIP, so fine, I'll just not use the acronym), so the second half of 2017 is off to a good start for me. WOO! Let's do this!

Going on hiatus
To whomstever may give an iota of a shite: I won’t be posting anything online for the next few months… maybe longer. TL;DR Explanation: I’m building up a backlog, yo. Longer self-serving pretentious reason: So, basically, I have no delusions of this ever actually becoming reality, but I really wish I could become an “art influencer” who can make this shit her full-time job. But at my current pace and wavering motivation levels, that’s never going to happen. The only way to sort of, potentially, maybe, almost hedge my bets a little is to build up a backlog of art so I can more realistically post new shit online a minimum of twice a week. That’s really only one of three ways to get any eyes on your work: To consistently post on social media. (The other two ways are having a shit-ton of luck and having previous fame to begin with—neither of which I have.) Basically, no one’s going to subscribe to an artist’s Patreon if they only post like a drawing every other month. So until I have a bunch of art on standby I’ll be gone. See y’all whenever I guess.
Video essay premiere this Friday!
I'm posting my first (sort of) video essay on YouTube soon! Check it out this Friday, Nov 19 if you're into All Tomorrows content or if you just want to hear me tell dumb jokes. If you don't know what All Tomorrows is, it's a weird little speculative sci-fi book detailing a future in which humanity is turned into weird-ass creatures by aliens. It was published online a while ago but has recently blown up, even gaining its own fanbase. You can read the book for free here OR watch a 40-minute video summarizing the here.
Call for Emergency Commissions! (For a Friend)
Hey, everyone. One of my good friends Vera really needs some extra cashola so I wanted to see if anyone who follows me is able to help them out by ordering a commission. Here are some examples of their work: If you can help them out by ordering a commission, send me a DM and I'll share their contact info. You'll have to discuss costs and other such details with Vera once you're able to reach out to them. Thankies!
